Significance
Park French of Mountjoy, French & Rowe built Smiley Library in 1918. The project was funded by one of eight Andrew Carnegie library gifts in the Denver area, and named for Denver schoolteacher and superintendent, William H. Smiley. The building has maintained it English-Norman Cottage architectural style and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Neighborhood
Smiley Library is located in the Berkeley Park neighborhood, home to the 83-acre Berkeley Park, which has seen many transformations since its conception in 1906. The area was once home to Elitch Gardens Amusement Park and now boasts an abundance of residential real estate.
