Structure
The Chamber has called a number of buildings in the downtown area home throughout its 150-year history, but has welcomed the public and members to its location at 1445 Market Street since 1985, when the building was constructed.
The Chamber refreshed the look of its interior and exterior in 2015, working with RNL and Burkett Design. Their goal was to create a vibrant space that reflects the values of the business community and the Chamber: a community that is healthy, green, collaborative, innovative and on the move.
Guests will see this reflected in details large and small. Here are just a few examples: • Healthy: Their standing desks, treadmill desk and showers to encourage commuting by bike or working out over lunch promote movement and wellness. They have open scenic stairwells showcasing the ascent of a 14er. They are an American Heart Association Fit Friendly Worksite. • Green: Their building is LEED Silver, Certifiably Green Denver and Energy Star rated. They’ve been recognized by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for advancing the clean energy industry; please see more in their Energy Star profile. All new equipment and appliances are Energy Star rated, all plumbing fixtures are high efficiency, low flow, and all furniture is low VOC emitting. • Collaborative: They have more than 30 spaces in their building for their team and members to meet and work on projects together. • Innovative: They have state-of-the-art technology, including interactive screens, a video conferencing room and much more.
• On the move: They are home to one of the most diverse economies in the country, with everything from agriculture to aerospace. Walk through their office and guests will see curated photography that displays not only that variety in the Chamber’s business, but also the uniquely different geography of Colorado. This collection was curated to include more than a dozen western artists whose works number over 80 pieces spanning three floors.
Externally, the lobby was extended to the sidewalk line to creating a larger entrance/lobby and better connect to an outdoor courtyard space. The balcony on their 4th floor was expanded; from there you viewers can enjoy the Auraria Campus and the Rockies.
Significance
The Chamber has worked in and with the community in some ways that might surprise people including housing the first public library in Denver, paying off a debt of the University of Denver, allowing the school to continue operations, and hosting the the first livestock show that would become the National Western Stock Show.
2017 marks a timely milestone and an excellent opportunity for patrons to learn about the Chamber and its unique impact on the community. The Chamber is proud of its long history in the state and wants to share it with the community.
