Athmar Park Library’s original building was Conversion of Prince of Peace Church, which was designed by William C. Muchow in 1971. Since it’s original conception, the structure has been remodeled into the space we know it as today. Many of the original architectural features have been maintained.
Athmar Park was once home to celery farms, and is considered one of the younger neighborhoods in Denver. After purchasing the land in 1946, Thomas and John R. McCusker developed Athmar Park. Urban legend says that the combination of the developers’ wives’ names–Athea and Mary–is where “Athmar” originates.
